Aimee Bertrand

Aimee Bertrand (she/her) was elected President of the independent Vermont State Employees Association (VSEA), a member-run union of 6000+ members, in August 2020, and was sworn in to serve her third term in September 2023. She is the
second woman, and first BIPOC member, to be elected to this office in VSEA’s 80-year history.
Born into a labor family, it was essential for Aimee to find a union job to start her career and plant her roots. In addition to her many union roles, Aimee is a proud 25-year employee with the State of Vermont Department for Children and Families where she works with the states most vulnerable, determining economic based programs. Transformational, charismatic, and decisive in leadership style, Aimee has successfully led her union through an attack on the state’s defined benefit pension system by a Democratic supermajority legislature and won a decertification attempt by a rival union 3 to 1.
As union president, Aimee boasts about VSEA’s recent successful affiliation with the AFL-CIO and is looking forward to working to strengthen the labor movement in Vermont and nationwide.
